ANDERSEN VIANA

ANDERSEN VIANA (b. 1962) is a Brazilian composer-conductor, versatile instrumentalist (flute, viola, keyboard), arranger, music producer and educator. His father Sebastião Viana was assistant to Heitor Villa-Lobos and his family has produced several distinguished musicians and artists. He was born in Belo Horizonte and has studied with Ennio Morricone, Luca Salvadori, Radamaes Gnatalli, Max Rostal, Oilliam Lanna, S.Vianna, Manuel Veiga, Paulo Lima, among others. His studies have taken him to Italy and Sweden, to the Accademia Chigiana di Siena, Reale Accademia Filarmonica di Bologna, the Arts Academy of Rome, Royal University College of Music (Stockholm), as well as to UFMG, UFBA (the Federal University of Brazil in Minas Gerais and Bahia). His area of specialization has been the composition of music for films, and electro-acoustic music.

He has recorded five CDs: two in Europe. He has received 19 national and international awards, including 1st prize at the prestigious "1er Concours de Composition Musicale pour Orchestre d'Harmonie" in Comines (Belgium), and First Prize and the Prix du Public at the "Concours de Composition pour Orchestre d'Harmonie" in Lambersart, France (2006). He has also composed, conducted and produced music for the following films: The Fortuneteller, 3:00 AM, Burning Hearts, The Adam Children, The Next Step, Guna's Speech, Lost in Abbey Road, Vivalma, Manuelzao e Bananeira, Ofelia, Playing for Tomorrow, Ghost Train, The Man with the Head of Paper, Minas Portuguesa, Near Evil, and Condenados.

Viana has more than 250 compositions to his credit including symphonic and chamber music, film scores, opera, vocal and choral and solo instrumental works. He teaches music history and music for cinema at the Fundaçao Clovis Salgado and the Escola Livre de Cinema in Belo Horizonte (Minas Gerais).
