  • CQ2102     We Did Not Sing In Eden, TTBB with trombone quartet or optional piano, 7pp. $1.65      View Sample
    Original text (see below) by Jo Jordahl is a homage to music as the embodiment of freedom, love,
    truth and the human spirit. Commissioned by the Zeta Chi Chapter, Phi Mu Alpha (1996). Duration about 2'40".

    "We did not sing in Eden, small children of the One,
    But meekly followed day and night until the time had come round right
    For the free will of men to be won.

    "We did not creep from Eden, we marched in columns strong,
    And lusty challenges we hurled on God's fierce wild primeval world,
    And the spirit of freedom was song.

    "Through love and loss and yearning,the labor has been long;
    Yet anthems have the weary made, and lullaby and serenade,
    For the spirit of love is a song.

    "In wondering and warfare,we search out right from wrong;
    Both joy and sadness must we sing, that truth may have her world-wide wing,
    For the spirit of truth is a song.

    "When tones celestial call us t'ward the immortal throng,
    Then let our thund'ring chorus rise, as soar our souls through mighty skies,
    For the voice of the spirit is song."
