Composer and Conductor MARTIN FOLZ

From 1978-1986, composer Martin Folz (b.1961) studied church music in Trier and at the Saar Music Academy in Saarbrücken. This training included a very thorough study of conducting, which Martin Folz was able to put into practice at an early age,

At 18 years of age he took over a major church music position in the municipal organization of Saarbrücken which offered him, apart from organist reponsibilities on a wonderful organ, the opportunity to work with children’s, youth, and adult choirs. Master classes with Laszlo Heltay and others served to maximise his education. In 1985, he founded the ENSEMBLE 85. In 1990, Martin Folz left the activities of church music to devote himself to a new task, as conductor of the SAARKNAPPENCHORES miners company choir, which he had directed since 1988. Then in 1993, Martin Folz also took over the musical direction of the renowned FRIEDRICH SPEE CHOIR OF TRIER. From 1994 until 1996 he directed the orchestra of the Saarland University. Since 1995, Martin Folz has been the choral conductor for the Association of Saar Singing Societies. Since 1996 he has been the conductor of the Collegium Musicum of Trier University, and since 1998, director of the Symphonic Brass Orchestra of Wemmetsweiler.

In 2001 Folz moved to Berlin and became the artistic director of the European Center for the Choral Arts.

Der Komponist und Dirigent MARTIN FOLZ

Der Komponist Martin Folz (*1961) studierte von 1978-1986 Kirchenmusik in Trier und an der Musikhochschule des Saarlandes in Saarbrücken. Diese Ausbildung beinhaltete ein sehr profundes Dirigierstudium, das Martin Folz schon sehr früh in die Praxis umsetzen konnte. Als Achtzenjähriger übernahm er eine große Kirchenmusikerstelle im Stadtverband Saarbrücken, die neben dem Organistendienst an einer wunderbaren Orgel auch die Arbeit mit Kinder-, Jugend- und Erwachsenenchor anbot. Meisterkurse, u.a. bei Laszlo Heltay dienten zur Optimierung des Erlernten. 1985 gründete er das ENSEMBLE 85. 1990 verließ Martin Folz das Tätigkeitsgebiet der Kirchenmusik, um sich ganz seiner neuen Aufgabe, der Leitung des SAARKNAPPENCHORES dem Werkschor der Saarbergwerke zu widmen, den er bis 1998 dirigierte. 1993 übernahm Martin Folz dann zusätzlich die musikalische Leitung des renommierten FRIEDRICH-SPEE-CHORES TRIER. Von 1994 bis 1996 direigierte er das Orchester der Universität des Saarlandes. Seit 1995 ist Martin Folz Bundeschormeister des Saarsängerbundes. Seit 1996 ist er Leiter des Collegium Musicum der UNI Trier, seit 1998 Dirigent des sinfonischen Blasorchesters Wemmetsweiler. Siehe auch der folgende Seite.
