ANGELO DIAS

Angelo de Oliveira Dias, born in 1964, began his voice and conducting studies at the Federal University of Goias, Brazil, from where he graduated in 1990. In 1996, he got his Master's Degree in Voice (M.M.) from the University of Wyoming, under the guidance of Frederick Gersten (voice) and Carlyle Weiss (conducting). In 2000, he finished his Doctorate in Voice and Conducting (DMA) at the University of Oregon, having studied with Mark Beudert (voice), and Richard Clark and Helmuth Rilling (conducting).
  • Along with an active career as an opera and art song performer (baritone), he has directed several professional and amateur choirs. Instead of concentrating his efforts in just one field of expertise, Mr. Dias has chosen to became more like a vocal specialist, both choral and solo, traveling all around the country, giving masterclasses and workshops to singers, conductors and vocal groups.
  • As it is commom with conductors in Brazil, Angelo Dias' work as a composer and as an arranger began very early in his life, mainly to provide him with an important repertoire resource for the choirs he directed. Although his arrangements were not published, the practice of free sharing allowed them to circulate nationwide with great acceptance. The hallmarks of his writing are a flair for counterpoint technique and a quite flexible melodic and rhythmic elaboration of the vocal lines.
  • Angelo Dias lives in the city of Goiania, Brazil, and teaches voice and conducting at the Federal University of Goias School of Music.
