WELCOME TO OUR CROATIAN ROOM!

We present some songs from the Croatian folk tradition, arranged for mixed choir, a cappella, by Dushan Prashelj with supplementary English lyrics by Wilbur Skeels. There will be several more titles in this series when it is complete. Presently you can enjoy the ones listed below. (Croatian pronunciation helps included, or you can sing the English text).
  • CQ2405     The Fair (Sajam), SAATB, $1.95, 11 pp.      View Sample
Original music in the style of a Croatian folk song.Text by Dasha Kabalin. This is a 'patter song' about going to the fair to buy a rooster. The busy sounds of the fair are suggested by the 'moto perpetuo' of the diri-diri-din-din refrain. Duration ca. 3:45.    Lyrics | midi audio file

  • CQ2406     The Red Steamboat (Vapor Plovi Milo), SATB, $1.65, 5 pp.      View Sample
A folk song from the Istrian region. A lover and his lass watch a ship as it passes, while she embroiders a shirt for his wedding. The energetic rhythms echo the sound of the ship's engines approaching, then receding. Difficulty level: 2-3. Duration ca. 2:40.   Lyrics | live recording (2.33MB) by the Los Robles Master Chorale (concert in Glendale, California).

  • CQ2407     Kostrena, SATB with baritone solo, $1.65, 6 pp.      View Sample
'There's no place like home'—even if tourists go elsewhere! That is the burden of this amusing folk-style song by Mat Ruzic, which contrasts the humble attractions of the singer's home village of Kostrena with the tourist meccas of Dubrovnik and Split. Duration ca. 2:40. Lyrics | live recording (3.86MB) with John Ross Nelson (baritone) and the Los Robles Master Chorale (concert in Glendale, California).
